Loaves & Fishes of Tompkins County
Loaves & Fishes provides a place for free meals, hospitality, companionship, and advocacy for those in need, regardless of their faith, beliefs, or circumstances. Founded in 1983, Loaves & Fishes is located in St. John’s Episcopal Church in downtown Ithaca.
CCC community members have been coordinating trips to Loaves and Fishes via the #service-opportunities Slack channel (click here to join the CCC workspace).In order to participate as a volunteer, you must please register with Loaves at this link and sign up for the shift you intend to serve on the Loaves website.
Many volunteer shifts are available, and consistent help is always appreciated!- Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 9:00 – 11:30 am and 11:15 am – 2:15 pm
- Tuesday & Thursday: 2:30 – 5:00 pm and 4:45 – 7:45 pm

Visiting Seniors. . . I was Sick and you looked after me, in prison and you came to visit me . . .
Longview Senior Living Community is an assisted- and independent-living residence and nursing facility located on Danby Road, just past Ithaca College on South Hill. There are many opportunities to visit:
Weekly Rosary: Every Wednesday at 3:15 p.m., Catholic residents of Longview gather to pray the Rosary. They love to see new faces!
Room visits: Whenever you are available, you can visit residents in their rooms and share with them companionship, conversation, and prayer. This is an inestimably great gift to people who receive few or no visitors.
Monthly Mass: Fr. Dan offers Mass at Longview at 3:00 p.m. on the 3rd Thursday of the month.Beechtree Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing is a nursing home located on South Albany Street in downtown Ithaca. Whenever you are available, you can visit Catholic residents in their rooms to share companionship, prayers, and sometimes Holy Communion.
We are always looking for new volunteers to visit both facilities. For more information, please contact Megan Wittmeyer ([email protected]).- No special training is necessary for the Wednesday Rosary visit or for attending the monthly Mass at Longview.
- Room visits require no special training. We can provide you with some prayer resources and you are encouraged to visit with a more experienced visitor once or twice at first if you have never done this kind of good work before.

Free Clothing Closet. . . I was naked and you clothed me . . .The Samaritan Center at the Catholic Charities of Tompkins/Tioga (Ithaca office at 324 W Buffalo Street) provides emergency financial assistance, free clothing and personal care items, and guidance and referrals to families and individuals in need. Thousands of people are served each year.
The Samaritan Center requires significant help with sorting donations. This can be a low-commitment, high-impact opportunity to serve. Even if you can only come once or twice, your contribution would be valued.
The Cornell Catholic Community is collaborating with the Cornell Graduate Christian Fellowship. Please email Nathan Liang ([email protected]) with questions and to volunteer.

Kids’ Faith Formation"you shall diligently teach your children" —Deut. 6:7Matthew and Lizzy Hall teach religious education to children ages 4 to 11 at Mary, Mother of Mercy parish (Ovid/Interlaken/Trumansburg). WE NEED HELP to corral a pack of lovely, energetic children of mixed needs. Come help hand on the faith!
The commitment is once a month on the second Saturday at St. Francis Solanus Church in Interlaken, NY 4:00–7:00 PM. There is a Vigil Mass with Children's Liturgy of the Word, followed by a children's lesson/project and potluck supper. We can arrange rides to and from campus. Even if you can come just once, you can make a big impact on a child!
